A ceasefire came into force at 03:00 on October 27, 2026, in the area surrounding the temporarily occupied town of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, announced the start of the truce, which was designed to support a specific humanitarian mission. The Russian Defence Ministry has also confirmed the implementation of a silence regime in the region.
Lubinets stated that the ceasefire regime was introduced at 03:00 Kyiv time and 04:00 Moscow time. He noted that the parties involved are adhering to the agreements reached between the heads of the negotiating teams. These arrangements were made in coordination with Yana Lantratova, Russia's Human Rights Commissioner.
The Ukrainian official emphasized that the cessation of hostilities is part of a joint humanitarian mission. This effort is being carried out by Ukraine in partnership with Lantratova. The operation is being mediated and coordinated by US First Lady Melania Trump, according to Lubinets.
In a statement, the Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the details of the truce. The ministry reported that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have ceased fire on the Kherson front. This silence regime was introduced from 04:00 on October 27, 2026, to prepare for the humanitarian operation near the settlement of Oleshky.
Lubinets indicated that he would continue to keep the public informed about the developments in the region. He stated that the priority remains the safety of civilians in Oleshky and strict compliance with the agreed arrangements between the two sides.
Background information reveals that the White House issued a statement reporting that First Lady Trump had secured this truce. The statement highlighted that a humanitarian disaster is currently unfolding in the Russian-occupied town, necessitating the immediate intervention.
Earlier announcements from the General Staffs of both Ukraine and Russia indicated that a ceasefire would take effect in a designated area. This was scheduled from the night of October 27 to allow sufficient time for the humanitarian operation to proceed safely in the occupied territory.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also confirmed that Russia had agreed to the ceasefire. His confirmation underscored the objective of allowing the humanitarian mission to be carried out in Oleshky without military interference.
Lubinets further confirmed that the specific humanitarian operation is scheduled to take place on October 29. He assured that the ceasefire will remain in effect during this period to ensure the success of the mission and the protection of those involved.
